Super Sentai Wedding Whacking episodes!

Well there's the idea of the June bride so I thought it might feature the wedding whacking in Super Sentai and what it was supposed to be. Here they are:

In Dynaman episode 13, Frog Shinka was sent by the Jashinka as a means to kidnap the brides and make them marry the awful monster.  However the plan was foiled by Rei Tachibana who got caught in the process but it was part of her plan to rescue the others.  

In Turboranger episode 12, the wicked Jarmin unleashed Sigh Bouma to steal love away from the women that it eventually reached marriages.  Zulten teased Jarmin about her trying to impress her established lover Zimba even more.  Eventually the fake marriage of Riki and Haruna caught Sigh Bouma off-guard and broke her broom so they can beat her.

In Jetman episode 20, the Vacuum Jigen was out there stealing the hearts of women who are about to be married as a means to cease the human race from continuing their line.  It was an episode where a child falls in love with Gai Yuuki and where he and Ako Hayasaka nearly got "married".  Overall, it was a hilarious episode with a touch of drama.

In Gaoranger episode six, the plot involved the Wedding Dress Org kidnapping brides and turning them into mannequins. Wedding Dress Org had a deal with Saori Shimada (a receptionist) that he (she?) will give her youth.  The plot was foiled and the brides were restored.

In Abaranger episode 28, Shiyouhousenkamereon was assigned to kidnap brides in favor of becoming the wife of Dezumorlya to enter into.  He was wrecked by several fake marriages.

In Shinkenger episode eight, the Gedoushu with no monster of the week were kidnapping brides.  Mako and Takeru had a standard western wedding and a Japanese wedding.  Plus, it was crazy to see Ryuunosuke disguise himself as a bride to fool the Gedoushu.

Two Shinkenger tribute episodes and more Goukeiger movie news!

As we all know based on the toy catalogs, the next episode is a Shinkenger tribute episode and surprisingly, this tribute episode will last for two episodes! Runa Natsui reprises her role as Kaoru Shiba/Female ShinkenRed. 

Navi tells Marvelous and the crew to be "cautious of Samurai's." The five starts to search after people wielding swords. This is when they met Kaoru which challenges them into a duel for her to reclaim the Shinkenger Ranger Keys.

Based on the known scans, Kaoru will use her Shinkenmaru and fight against the Gokaiger's Joe who is using a single Gokai Sabre. Her retainer, Tanba, will make an appearance too.

These two episodes will revolve around Joe's past as well which he remembers his senior, Sid (played by Shindou Gaku) who taught him everything about swords. This episode also marks the debut of the ShinkenGokaiOh, the second formation of the GaoLion Legend Machine.

Asides from that, the next tribute episode involves Gekisou Sentai Carranger! Since the series is know for being a parody Super Sentai series, expect that this will be an extremely funny episode! The said show's writer, Yoshio Urasawa returns to direct this tribute and Yuji Kishi reprises his role as Kyousuke Jinnai/Red Racer.

Carranger's tribute episode will be on Episode 14. Episode 13 will be a non-tribute episode that will revolve around Ahim working with a kidnapper that has money problems.

And lastly, here's a minor update regarding the upcoming Gokaiger - Goseiger - Super Sentai: 199 Great Hero Battle. Accordingly, the Black Cross Army along with the Zangyack Empire was able to steal the Gokaiger's Ranger Keys which they used to summon evil clones of the Rangers. What's more is that these evil clones were summoned by using a gun (on top left)! Onore Die-, I mean, Black Cross King!

GorenGokaiOh (below the gun) will also debut in this film in which the Goranger's first flying fortress mecha, the Varibloom/Variblume docks on GokaiOh's back to form this formation. Asides from flying, it is not confirmed if it has more abilities asides from that.

Super Sentai 35th anniversary movie opens this May!

Good news to all Super Sentai fans out there! Aside from the 35th Anniversary series, Kaizoku Sentai Goukaiger, TOEI had announced an anniversary movie. Tentatively entitled Super Sentai 35-Saku Kinen Sakuhin, it stars all 199 heroes in spandex from Himitsu Sentai Goranger to present.

And aside from all the multi-colored heroes taking part in Super Sentai 35-Saku Kinen Sakuhin, the film will also feature the appearances of all the giant robots or mecha in the franchise. The use of giant robots started way back in 1979's Battle Fever J which officially started to use the term Super Sentai. So far, no plot details have been revealed.


In Addition, TOEI is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ishinomori'sKamen Rider franchise with two movies this year. First off is OOO - Den-O - All Riders: Let's Go Kamen Rider, which stars the original, Kamen Rider #1, as he travels with the DenLiner Crew and Kamen Rider OOO in time. It will be shown on April 1.

The second Kamen Rider movie this year will be the yearly Super Sentai and Kamen Rider movie double billing tentatively entitled Gekijō-ban Kamen Rider OOO/Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger that will be shown on August 6.

Another question comes into our minds now. Will be also be getting a Movie Wars 2011 film starring Kamen Rider OOO and the 2011 Kamen Rider this December?

Goseiger VS Shinkenger plot update

We finally got hold of the plot details for the Sentai VS movie Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen that will be shown on January 2011.

Madakodama once again starts attacking and 2 Super Sentai teams teamed up to fight him. But it was such a difficult fight for them, that Takeru was captured. this made an uproar to occur between the 2 teams, although Arata refuse to give up. Something awful is happening to Takeru's body. What is his fate?

Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen will be shown in Japanese theaters on January 22, 2011.

Final Villains that destroy mechs before their defeat

Here are some villains that managed to destroy mecha before their deaths. They are:

Emperor Vulgyre- In the finale, not even the Max Magma was a match for him. He was however defeated by the Super Five Robo when he was weakened by the Sidon flowers.

Radiguet- He acquired the ultimate monster form by merging with the beast Raguem. He was practically ultra sturdy except for the wound on his back. He destroyed Tetraboy with much ease. After the Jetmen defeated him, their mecha may be beyond repair.

Emperor Exhaus- It was pretty cool to see him destroy all the mecha of the Carrangers before he was defeated. That makes him more bad-ass than Ragorn.

Final Highness Senki- He managed to destroy the Gaorangers' mecha before he was finally destroyed. He was destroyed by the release of other Gao Animals and the resurrected Gaoranger mecha though. Ironic isn't it?

Emperor Doukoku- He managed to destroy the Shinkengers' mecha before his demise.

Goseiger VS Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen coming in 2011

It's the time of the year again for another Super Sentai team-up movie. And this time, it's going to be Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen that will be shown this January 2011.


Similar to all Super Sentai VS movies, the movie took place after the events of the previous series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, and in the middle of the current series, Tensou Sentai Goseiger. Since the Yuumaju will be one of the movie's villains, this could be a little before or just after the Gosei Angels defeat the Yuumaju, and just before the Matrintis showed up.

In Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen, an evil ShinkenRed will appear, which will be called NiseShinkenRed (nise - fake, imitation). It will be revealed that the Gedoushu's remaining member, Hone no Shitari, is the one who created it. It's unconfirmed if it's Shiba Takeru or some other guy playing as him.

The head of the Gedoushu, Chimatsuri Dokoku, and two Buredorans (Suisei and Chupacabra), are also said to appear in Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen. How that happened? That's for us to find out.

One of the things to watch out on Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen film is the team-up battle against the Yuumaju and the Gedoushu. The Gosei Angels are in Super Goseiger mode along with GoseiKnight, and the our samurai heroes have manage to use Super Shinkenger at the same time while Takeru is in Hyper ShinkenRed.


And similar to what happened in Samurai Sentai Shinkenger vs Go-Onger: Silver Screen BANG!!! wherein the Goseigers made their first appearance, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger will also make their first appearance in Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen movie.

Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs Shinkenger: Epic on the Silver Screen will be shown in Japanese theaters on January 22, 2011.

Sentai heroines... as Fake Brides?

Super Sentai had some of its heroines fake brides to foil an enemy scheme involving ruining marriages. Here they are:

Peggy Matsumaya- I forgot which one. I was too young. Hee hee.

Rei Tachibana pretended to be a bride to trap Frog Shinka and fool her rival Princess Chimera.

Haruna Morikawa was unofficially married to Riki Honoo to stop Sigh Bouma. It couldn't be validated as legal because they were still teenagers. :-P

Ako Hayasaka is unofficially married to Gai Yuuki to trap Vacuum Jigen. This was just funny. No the funniest IMO. During this time, Gai Yuuki could be guilty of corrupting minors.

Mako Shiraishi is unofficially married to Takeru Shiba to stop a Gedoushu activity of wrecking marriages. But it wasn't that funny though.

Why Sentai Lasted Longer

I was inspired to write this when I read this entry by Lavender Ranger. So why do I think Super Sentai has lasted that long in contrast to other franchises like Metal Hero and Kamen Rider (which froze for 11 years before Kuuga arrived)? Well here are some:

Super Sentai presents different themes. If the same type of theme is carried over, twists and turns are made. Examples of these are like Zyuranger and Abaranger (dinosaur theme), Turboranger and Carranger (car theme) and teenagers with an attitude (Turboranger and Megaranger). There are also fusion themes like Hurricanger (Kakuranger and Liveman) too.

Deviation from the norm was happening especially in terms of plot, mecha and characters. Can't help but use Liveman and a example of that start. Sun Vulcan was the only Sentai with three members. Liveman was a great series (save for the not-so-well done finale because IMO it should have been an emotional battle instead) that it spawned two "clones" namely Hurricanger and Go-onger. Jetman's arrival also helped make better series.

I think the introduction of the giant robots did to since Battle Fever J. PR fans may call this the "Megazord mayhem in Super Sentai" which was first introduced in Battle Fever J. The demand for toys made Toei create more plot twists in the mecha.

Also with the rangers, portraying them to be more human than most American TV superheroes even to the point of death keeps the show realistic. The superheroes in Super Sentai had their weaknesses more emphasized than ever. For example, Hoji Tomasu though he was the best officer in the block also had the attitude problem of being cocky and self-centered which he eventually overcame. Some red rangers didn't start of as the ideal leader they were. The girls though they were hot, they had their thorny stems too (ex. Lin of Dairanger). In reality, even some of the greatest heroes recorded in history made disastrous decisions in life.

A fresh cast helps too. Different casts mean different personalities. Also Super Sentai's bad seasons weren't that bad either.

At times, the re-emergence of Super Sentai seniors in some of the newer ones.

Action scenes. Yeah. Super Sentai has plenty of action scenes although the newer ones were watered down for some reason.

And I think drama has something to do with keeping it fresh too.

Villains keep the show hot too. Also, they are not portrayed to be one-dimensional. Even the biggest SOBs like Radiguet and Long do have a sense of humor, though theirs is sick. Different villain twists were done from the standard organization to even creating multiple factions in a show. Also the part where villains turn against each other keeps the show realistic.

And not to mention humor. Humor is part of life like sadness and death. Even a dark series like Dekaranger had some funny moments, even for a serious guy like Hoji Tomasu.

How could I forget the OST? IMO Sentai OST is better than Power Rangers in terms of the melody. There are plenty of musical scores for different situations. Music livens things up.

Sentai Seasons with Asian Themes

For some reason, I would like to consider Hikari Sentai Maskman as the first Asian-themed Sentai. Why? Well the whole theme focused on Asian martial arts. It mixed both Chinese and Japanese fighting styles. This was pretty popular among Filipino fans, which has caused many Filipinos to demand Super Sentai back.

Gosei Sentai Dairanger instead of using Japanese themes, used Chinese themes in almost all the stuff from suits to mecha to the enemies instead of Japanese themes for some reason. In fact, Ryou is the first Sentai red ranger to be half-Chinese seeing that his father was Zhang Liao and his mother was a Japanese woman. Some of its footage was used for MMPR Season 2. It somewhat paid tribute to Maskman with chi power and extreme martial arts. Also, it was the first show in Super Sentai to feature a child ranger in Kou. I think that Chinese themes were used because of the popularity of Hong Kong cinema.

Ninja Sentai Kakuranger used Japanese themes instead of Chinese themes. It also battled the supernatural based on Japanese myths as well. Footage from this show was used during MMPR Season 3 and for the mini-series Alien Rangers which was part of MMPR Season 3.

Ninpou Sentai Hurricanger is the second ninja-themed Super Sentai. It was for me a fusion of Kakuranger and Liveman. Liveman in a sense of the first three members, betrayal, redemption and mecha. It also got its ninja theme from Kakuranger but that was just it. This was adapted into the lighthearted Power Rangers Ninja Storm where an Asian sensei trains Americans to be ninjas.

Juken Sentai Gekiranger was the second to use Chinese themes, this time to even pay tribute to famous Hong Kong stars with the Sky Fist Saints. Unlike Dairanger, this show wasn't that serious while keeping itself realistic. Unfortunately its American adaptation Jungle Fury suffered from bad writing from Bruce Kalish who's better off with writing other cartoons that he did well.

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is the latest Asian themed Super Sentai and first to be samurai-themed and second to focus on Japanese myths. While this was said to be unadaptable by many, they IGNORE the other shows above. How will the PR adaptation turn out? Looks like I'll just have to wait. This show IMO also gave me Maskman nostalgia.

Should Super Sentai Dub, Sub or Adapt?

It has crossed my mind just recently with Super Sentai (as well as Tokusatsu) for the foreign market. Before Zyuranger was adapted into Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Season One, Super Sentai was being dubbed into different languages- English, Filipino, French and Latin. To reduce the violence, some scenes deemed inappropriate (like gunshot wounds) were deleted without hiding the fact that the enemy died. The dubbing went until Jetman, which I believe was another choice for what Saban wanted to become Power Rangers.

Haim Saban was interested in dubbing Super Sentai if I'm not wrong. Rumors spread that he actually dubbed Bioman as an entire series but it clicked more with Asia than America. I think so because Hikaru or Pink Five was named Kimberly, a name that his first pink ranger will take soon enough- and both the chick of their teams. If I'm not wrong he felt Super Sentai should just be dubbed and edited but cultural boundaries ARE a problem one must solve.

Because of cultural boundaries, Power Rangers was born instead of Saban dubbing Super Sentai. For some reason, he chose Zyuranger instead of Jetman. Later some American fans discovered the existence of Super Sentai later and some even white ones became fans and were categorized as either they like Sentai more now, still liking Power Rangers more even if they like Super Sentai and they dumped Power Rangers entirely. Some thought that Toei and Saban should have cooperated to dub and edit instead.

Later for some reason, Dekaranger became the very first series to be completely subbed. Fan subs were also born. Fan subs were later created for other series for the English speaking fans. However no more Super Sentai series were dubbed, sadly Filipinos don't see dubbed Sentai anymore :-(. Only Anime left unadapted (but some scenes edited) was ever dubbed from Japan by American voice dubbers. However I'm recently a fan of sub over dub. Some fans think that the cast members are very much like MMPR in terms of personality. I agree but only with Hoji, Jasmine and Tetsu. Rest. IMO- nah. They're likable in their own way.

Lately for Haim Saban after buying Power Rangers back chose to adapt Shinkenger with his own a little more original interpretation presumably to remain American friendly, rather than dub Shinkenger. But then, I hope he'll start dubbing and subbing Sentai soon, that is starting with Shinkenger, at least PR fans will know why Power Rangers exists as well. :-P
